As I mentioned in my previous post, I had an amazing dinner at Shin Kushiya last week. The piping hot yakitori reminded me of my trip to Hokkaido, when I was stuck in the van with some friends because the snow was too heavy, and we were eating hot bento lunches with assorted yakitori…mmmmm…

Most people would recognise this as ‘otak-otak’…a local favourite which goes really well with ‘nasi lemak’ or between two slices of bread. Together with the spices, the banana leaf wrapping adds to the fragrance of the ‘otak-otak’. (Pssst…the secret is in the spices!)

This was prepared as part of an anniversary dinner. After having prepared food a few times, I wanted to focus more on the styling and presentation. Of course, while taste was paramount (and it wasn’t too shabby, if I may say so myself), this was a first attempt at putting some thought into the food styling and presentation.
