During our stay in DC, we went to this place called Jenny’s Asian Fusion for dinner. It was, by all accounts, a decent meal…but nothing like what you can find at the neighbourhood coffeeshop “zhi char” stall.
But this post is not about Jenny’s. Well, not entirely anyway…
Ok, technically, this meal wasn’t in the Big Apple. You see, we took a road trip to DC, and stayed there for four days (and I just wanted to keep the title).
Other than the usual fast food (e.g. Subway) and food courts, this was one of the more memorable meals in DC.

It has been about three weeks since I returned from a trip to the Big Apple in December 2010. Before I left, friends who had been there were gushing about the place and how I would fall in love with it. As I am not really a city person, I was not expecting to share the same sentiments they had.

I had a short getaway to Sarawak this past weekend. It was a great time of just relaxing, chilling, and kicking back…and of course, eating. Prior to this trip, all I knew about Sarawak (or thought I knew) were head-hunters and John Hunter…but of course, I was wrong…
I was wondering about what to write about next, and was looking through my archives when I came across photos of my trip to Israel in 2009. It was less than a year ago, but seems so distant now. Anyhow, looking through my photos, I realised I had some shots of the food we had in Israel…and I thought, hey, why not?
Ok, so it wasn’t exactly a pursuit. Instead, it just fell into my lap (not literally) and was more serendipitous than anything else.
As part of our annual pilgrimage to Malacca, a group of friends and I always stay at this hotel called Hotel Puri near the famous Jonker Street. It is along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, and is actually a traditional Peranakan house/mansion which used to be the home of some famous Malaccan pioneer (whose name eludes me).
Anyhow, like I said, we love staying there because it is near Jonker Street which comes alive on weekend nights because of a night market or ‘pasar malam’ where one can get traditional food, crafts and lots of other things. There is also a pub (Geographer’s Cafe) around the corner which we love for the chill-out factor (although the live music could wake the dead). Most importantly, it is near the famous ‘baba chendol’ which is TO DIE FOR!
